Should you get a Dyslexia Diagnosis?
Are you on the fence about getting a dyslexia diagnosis? In this video, we go over some of the reasons why getting a dyslexia diagnosis can be a great idea.
Diagnosis often allows dyslexics access to additional resources, points to effective intervention for children, and can explain why somebody is struggling, which can be a huge relief.
While some parents are afraid that their child will be stigmatized if they seek a diagnosis, research shows that the label can be a protective factor against low self-esteem where the experience of struggling academically may be the cause.
An early diagnosis means that intervention is more effective. So it would be ill-advised to wait for the child to catch up.
So if you are on the fence about getting a dyslexia diagnosis, don’t be! It is likely to be a positive experience.
